It is a joy to be a part of a team that does skillful work. Each piece they create is unique, and the level of talent and expertise at the studio is astounding. I appreciate the dedication and attention to detail the artisans have in building spectacular homemade art. Last week I received the opportunity to learn hands on by making a sun catcher!

Making a sun-catcher

Cutting the glass

I had a great time making this sun-catcher. I went from picking out the design and glass to finishing it with patina (changes the color of the metal that keeps the glass in place). It took me roughly six hours to complete, and gave me the opportunity to learn the different tools and the process.

A few things I learned:

-How to cut glass and smooth the edges

-How to copper foil glass

-How to use a soldering iron

-Why using flux is an important step

Soldering the glass together

I am considering writing a blog that walks you through a detailed step-by-step process. Comment below if that is something you would be interested in reading! I would also love to hear your blog ideas, so comment below something you would like to see me write about!
