#Local: Why we support our local artists

There is an artistic movement sweeping through the entire country revolving around the local artisan and handcrafted, creative artwork. Local artists are beginning to put out booths with their work for their communities to appreciate, and it’s important that we support the local art movement.

Why is it important to support our local artisans?

1. Highest quality

Locally made, artisanal products are made with the highest care. That’s why the artisanal movement started in America. People began to tire of highly-industrialized, out-of-a-box products and started searching out American-made items and food. Entrepreneurs and artists jumped on board at this idea and began opening their own restaurants, food trucks, shops, studios, and artisan booths. The emphasis lies on handcrafted, durable, and local art. Quality matters.

2. Boosts local economy

Supporting your local restaurants and artists actually increases the economy in that community as it keeps the cash flow more concentrated. An article from TIME Magazine details this phenomenon. But the fact is: if you want to see your community blossom, invest into the local businesses and artists in the area.

3. Unique and different

Local products are not going to be found anywhere else in the world. Therefore, you are getting something very special and unique to your area. Every handmade product from the local artists or business will be different from the one before. That’s special!

4. Increases tourism

What brings tourism to a city or community? Interesting local attractions and businesses. How do you increase tourism to your city? Support your local artists and shops. If your town has a farmers’ market, build it up and support the booths. Help your local artists advertise to other areas that your town has something unique to offer visitors.

5. Boosts the arts of your community

How does a city have a growing arts community? Maybe even start an arts district? To do so, the local artists and artisans must have support from the community around them. There must be a genuine love of the arts in the city and a desire to see artists succeed. Some artists are young and just beginning on their own. If you like what you see, make a purchase! You won’t regret it.
