About Us

Our Story

Stanton Studios, expanded from well-known Stanton Glass Studio, was founded in 1979 by Bryant Stanton. The company began as a rented workbench in a shop with a couple crates of glass and has grown into a nationally-recognized business with work displayed in businesses and homes across Texas and the United States. Stanton Studios is run by Bryant and his four sons, along with an in-house professional artist, Joe Barbieri.

The Beginnings

Bryant got his start in stained glass in the late 1970s making suncatchers for a gift store in Waco, Texas. After a year, he decided to start his own business at the age of 21, and he named the company Stanton Glass Studio. The first shop opened in Downtown Waco as a craft shop that offered classes and sold small windows in the store. Bryant’s first commercial job came from restoring stained glass windows from a church that was damaged by a fire. Stanton Studios still does work for this church today.

History in Glass

Stanton Studios has done work in cathedrals and buildings across the
state of Texas. A lot of the stained glass pieces in the Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas were created and built in our studio. The cross in Arborlawn United Methodist Church in Fort Worth, Texas is also a Stanton Studios creation. The three-story DNA sculpture at the McLennan Community College science building is a brainchild of Stanton Studios. See our Portfolio page for more examples of the works of art created by our studio.

The craftsmen in the glass studio are accomplished in a wide variety of stained glass skills, including traditional hand-painting, beveling, acid-etching, fusing, slumping, sand-carving, and gold-leafing. Each new product request is individually designed, drawn, and perfected by the artisans here in the studio. Stanton Studios also does work in historic glass restoration and repair.

History in Wood

Nathan Stanton learned his craft in woodworking when he was 18 years old. Stanton Woodworks has been a part of Stanton Studios for nine years. Nathan does work in many different areas of wood, including fine custom cabinetry, doors, entries, architectural window frames, and different pieces of furniture that includes tables of various sizes, dressers, desks, and china cabinets.

History in Metal

Stanton Studios also does work in metal and has completed art pieces like light fixtures and window panes. This branch of the company is growing. See the Services page to discover what in-house projects the company can do and look at some past projects designed by Stanton Studios and fabricated in collaboration with other metalworking companies.

Stanton Studios, expanded from Stanton Glass Studio, LLC, is an accredited member of the Stained Glass Assocation of America, a member of the Assocation for Preservation Technology International, a member of the Glass Artist Society, and a member of the Waco Chamber of Commerce.

Testimonials

  • "Bryant is dedicated to his faith, his family, his craft and his community.  Over the years, we have visited for hours to explore improvements for some issues, and remedies for others.  Bringing art and the beauty of nature to everyone is important to him.  To help other become involved in art themselves is his dream.  He is a man of vision, and has the fortitude to affect a successful, if not spectacular conclusion.  As their family has grown, a virtual village of art and craft has grown around their homes.  It is a joy to go out and visit their shops of blown glass, stained glass, woodwork and cabinetry."

  • "Bryant is not just an incredible craftsman with leaded glass; he has a designer’s eye and imagination.  From the smallest Christmas ornament to the multistory DNA double helix structure in the McLennan College Science building (in Waco, TX), he fashions glass to absorb as well as reflect light.  The Geometry of Growth sculpture in the same building shows how the various disciplines of science emanate from the same beginning."

  • "The quality and artistry of this glass studio's work is just wonderful.  Our project was a small one of blocking bright afternoon sun from two dining room windows with one of my very favorite, beautiful art forms — stained glass.  Bryant Stanton and artist Joe Barbieri worked to give us exactly the type of windows and scenes we wanted, even down to including a song bird like one from a painting hanging near the windows.  We think the windows are beautiful and enjoy them in the changing light every day.  Bryant, Joe, and the Stanton Glass Studio employees were a pleasure to know and work with."

  • "We feel fortunate to benefit from the entire 'Stanton experience.'  It was fun, educational and rewarding to see the shop and all the glasswork in addition to seeing the artistic woodwork and finishes.  We also appreciate being kept apprised of work’s progress.  Every aspect was professional."

  • "Bryant Stanton has provided exquisite works of glass art highlighting HHCC jobs for many years. Stanton Glass designs and works were certainly instrumental in HHCC, Inc. receiving numerous prestigious awards. Stanton’s glass works were featured in The Driskill Hotel Lobby restoration (Austin, TX) which garnered a Lone Star Award and AIA award for the best historical restoration in 2000. In 2002 HHCC was cited the Lone Star Award (Best Historical Renovation), featuring the 1886 Cafe. Again, Stanton Glass’s works were featured. HHCC has had the opportunity to work with Stanton Glass on many other occasions. Stanton was always easy to work with, from the initial design process, through fabrication and installation. If you want to put some visual “wow” in your project, consider Stanton Glass."

  • "Bryant Stanton has designed numerous gifts, doors, and windows for our family and friends. His dedication to detail, quality of work, and amazing ability to take our concept, interpret it, then produce an incredible work of art in stained glass has given our family and friends great pleasure over the years. I will always choose Stanton Glass due to his creativity, quality of work, and integrity."

  • "Stanton Glass brought to life the spirit of our new science building by incorporating the art work that helps to set apart this [sic] buildings from others. One of my greatest rewards since the opening of the building has been comments from students that the art work helps to make them feel special."

Johnette McKown, Ed.D., PresidentMcLennan Community College
  • "We commissioned our first stained glass windows from Stanton Glass when we were building our home 14 years ago. These two matching 5′X4′ windows are as beautiful today as they were back then. Recently, we purchased another stained glass window from Stanton Glass that is now adorning our dining room. We chose to return to Stanton Glass because of their artistry and craftsmanship. We would recommend Stanton Glass to anyone."

  • "Southern Cross II is magnificent! Our visitors have described it as spectacular, stunning, amazing and breathtaking. It is a wonderful addition to our new building."

Jim Vaughan, President and CEOGreater Waco Chamber of Commerce
  • "The new chapel original glass wall is an inspiring and moving design depicting the creation which is the theme of our chapel. Stanton Glass developed a beautiful design that will serve as a tribute to our sacred work here at Hillcrest, it is an inspiration to every person who enters the chapel and views the stained glass wall, which is exactly what we had hoped to create. We are a faith-based organization and we always enjoy promoting that concept to all who come to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center."

Jim Garrett, Senior Vice PresidentHillcrest Health Foundation
  • "The pieces that Stanton Glass Studios created for me are the most beautiful works of stained glass I have ever seen. I felt that my judgment and taste were highly respected. And it was all done by email and phone! The final outcome was more pleasing than I had ever dreamed."

  • "I’m not sure if professional writers or poets could adequately describe the double helix that he has created. I think to put it in words would be very difficult. It’s one of those things you just have to see it to believe it; it is so unique and so impressive. It’s just wonderful."

Dr. Dennis Michaelis, Former College PresidentMcLennan Community College
  • "I was impressed by the classic beauty of the sketches, but to see the windows installed with the sun streaming in through brilliant color and exquisite textures took my breath away."

Janet Hurta, Design CoordinatorTrinity Lutheran Church
  • "We are delighted with the beautiful window and I was especially impressed that the window fit perfectly. The frame slid in with no margin of error and looks like it was made for the opening. The design and craftsmanship are exceptional and this is an heirloom piece we will pass to our children. You can sit at our table and 'hear' the water."

  • "The restoration work that Stanton Glass Studio did on the Main Building (of the University of Texas at Austin) window looks terrific! I was impressed by your repair work on the damaged panels, and with your re-creation of the transom window. Your ability to match the new window with the (old) panels is remarkable, especially considering the fact that we could only provide a black-and-white photograph of the transom window for reference. Thank you for an excellent job!"
